Eddie Montgomery: Eddie's first professional appearance was when he was approximately five years old. Eddie began performing with his parents’ band "Harold Montgomery and the Kentucky River Express". When Eddie reached his teens he joined his dad’s band full-time and replaced his mom, Carol, as the group’s drummer.

Troy Gentry: As a teenager Troy began doing guest vocals with area bands and eventually landed a gig with a local Lexington, KY group. Due to his outstanding talent, Troy won the 1994 Jim Beam National Talent Search in Nashville, which led to opening slots for Patty Loveless, John Michael Montgomery, Tracy Byrd, and Eddie Rabbitt.

Montgomery Gentry – "The Beginning"
Eddie Montgomery and his brother, John Michael, created their own band "Early Tymz" and played in the Lexington area. After this band dissolved, Troy, Eddie, and John Michael formed a new group called John Michael Montgomery and Young Country. After several years, John Michael went on to pursue a solo career and Eddie and Troy re-teamed to form a new duo initially named "Deuce". The duo was eventually renamed Montgomery Gentry.

Montgomery Gentry Signs With Columbia Records
Montgomery Gentry quickly became a favorite in the Lexington area with their "hillbilly honky tonk" sound that has a definite kick to it. The crowds grew and the fervent fans developed into a groundswell of support that started getting the attention of Nashville. After hearing the music of this powerful duo, Allen Butler, President, Sony Music Nashville set up a showcase for Sony staff and industry insiders. Even before the standing ovation and calls for encores were over, a deal was in the works and the duo was signed to Columbia Records.
